Education

The Training & Education Department aims to centralise and coordinate all undergraduate and postgraduate ophthalmic medical training in SNEC as well as to provide continuing medical education for ophthalmologists and clinicians in general. The Ophthalmology Residency Programme started in July 2011 and is under the guidelines of the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME).

 

The department coordinates all teaching activities involving SNEC, e.g., CME lectures, Subspecialty Courses, Workshops for General Practitioners, Joint meetings with overseas institution, Nursing and Paramedical Training Course etc. It is led by Dr Ian Yeo, who is the Academic Vice Chair (Education) and Director, Professional and Postundergraduate Education of the Academic Clinical Program for Ophthalmology at SingHealth / Duke-NUS Graduate School of Medicine and a clinical lecturer with the NUS-YLL medical school.

 

 

·    The Advanced Surgical Training Programme includes clinical teaching, surgery, education, research and publication. The main objective is to provide comprehensive ophthalmic training for advanced trainees and ensure the continuing competencies in managing and maintaining the quality of eye care in the region.

 

·    The one-year fellowship in vitreo-retinal medicine and surgery aims to produce mature, experienced, and knowledgeable surgeons with advanced level competency in the diagnosis and management of patients with retinal and vitreous diseases.

 

·    International Fellowship, Undergraduate and Postgraduate observership in SNECoffer 6 months to 1-year fellowship positions in the various sub-specialties. For the undergraduate, we also coordinate the activities of medical students during their ophthalmic rotation from the NUS-YLL and Duke-NUS Medical Schools and provide observership at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
